Banda Aceh, Septermber 23, 2025 – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) continues to expand its strategic collaboration network in the field of disaster studies. Most recently, TDMRC USK has established a partnership with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through its Human Resources Development and Training Center (PPSDM).
This collaboration focuses on human resource capacity building, research, and innovation in disaster management. The Director of TDMRC USK, Prof. Dr. Syamsidik, ST., M.Sc, emphasized that cooperation with BMKG is an important step toward strengthening disaster preparedness based on science and technology, particularly in Aceh and other disaster-prone regions.

“As a center of excellence in disaster research, TDMRC USK is committed to delivering real contributions to society. Through this collaboration, we hope to produce more applied research and structured human resource development programs in disaster mitigation,” said Prof. Syamsidik.
In addition to strengthening research activities, this partnership also opens opportunities for collaboration in disaster innovation, including early warning technologies, disaster simulation tools, and the effective dissemination of disaster information to the public. TDMRC USK views this synergy with BMKG as part of reinforcing the role of universities in supporting government and national institutions in building disaster-resilient communities.
Furthermore, TDMRC USK underscores its commitment to preparing a new generation of academics and practitioners in disaster science through higher education. USK currently offers a Master’s Program in Disaster Science and has officially launched a Doctoral Program in Disaster Science, one of the first doctoral programs in Indonesia in this field. These academic programs are expected to produce highly qualified graduates who will actively contribute to research, policy-making, and the implementation of disaster mitigation strategies at various levels.
