TDMRC USK Holds Coordination Meeting on the In-Saintek Berdampak Program with the Head of the Aceh Education Office (Dinas Pendidikan)

Banda Aceh, September 22, 2025 – In the framework of implementing the In-Saintek 2025 Program, the research team from the Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) held a coordination meeting with the Head of the Aceh Education Office on Monday, September 22, 2025. The meeting, which took place in the Office of the Head of the Aceh Education Office, was received directly by the Head of the Aceh Education Office, Marthunis, ST., DEA.

The TDMRC USK research team was led directly by the Director of TDMRC, Prof. Dr. Syamsidik, ST., M.Sc, and included Prof. Dr. Muksin, M.Phil, Dr. Yunita Idris, M.Structure, Dr. Sylvia Agustina, Dr. Rina Suryani Oktari, M.Si, and Dr. Tursina, ST., MT. The meeting was also attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti.

In the meeting, the Director of TDMRC USK conveyed that this year TDMRC USK received the In-Saintek Impactful Program 2025 grant, carrying the theme “Science Literacy for Disaster Resilience.” He further explained that the In-Saintek Program aims to strengthen a solid and sustainable national science and technology (SAINTEK) ecosystem through the active involvement of universities in disseminating and utilizing science and technology for society. The activities that will be carried out by TDMRC USK this year include:

  • Disaster Science Camp: Enhancing Disaster Literacy on Geohazard Topics 2025

  • Socialization of the Tsunami Water Level Monument and EvaNami to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness

  • Workshop on the Use of Virtual Reality (VR) for Sustainable Environment and Mount Seulawah Volcano Disaster Preparedness

  • Workshop on the Use of SupeRISKa Devices and Building Database for Disaster Management in Banda Aceh

This coordination meeting was important not only to gain support from the Aceh Government but also because the activities involved selected high school and vocational school (SMA-SMK) students in Aceh Province. In addition, the meeting also discussed other activities to be carried out in collaboration with the Aceh Education Office.

In his remarks and response, the Head of the Aceh Education Office, Mr. Marthunis, ST., DEA, warmly welcomed the initiative. He assured that he would provide permission and recommendations for selected SMA-SMK students to participate in these activities. He also pledged support during the implementation, both in terms of resource persons and other necessary materials. Furthermore, he emphasized that this initiative should not stop here but continue in the coming years so that the benefits can be felt more widely and sustainably by the students in Aceh.
