TDMRC and Kanagawa University Strengthen Collaboration on Disaster Resilience Research

Banda Aceh, March 17, 2025 – Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala, in collaboration with Kanagawa University, organized a workshop titled “Research Ideas Exchanges on Disaster Resilience between Kanagawa University and Universitas Syiah Kuala.” This event aimed to strengthen research collaboration in disaster resilience and expand the knowledge of academics and researchers in developing more effective disaster mitigation strategies.

The workshop featured distinguished researchers from Kanagawa University, namely Prof. Yoshiharu Shumuta and Dr. Eng. Ochiai Tsutomu. On behalf of TDMRC, the speakers included Aulia Khalqillah, M.Si., Adrian, M.Sc., and Rizanna Rosemary, Ph.D., with Haekal Azief Haridhi, Ph.D., serving as the moderator.

During the discussions, the researchers presented their studies on disaster-related topics, sharing insights on challenges and solutions that can be implemented to enhance disaster resilience. They also explored opportunities for further collaboration in research and the development of disaster mitigation technologies.

Following the discussion session, the delegation from Kanagawa University was invited to visit various disaster research facilities at TDMRC. They had the opportunity to observe the Real-Time Earthquake Observatory, an advanced facility used for global seismic activity monitoring. Additionally, they observed the use of the Shaking Table and the Tsunami Wave Flume, two key facilities for earthquake and tsunami simulation and research.

This workshop marks a strategic step in strengthening academic collaboration between Universitas Syiah Kuala and Kanagawa University in the pursuit of innovative solutions to future disaster challenges.
