Study Excursion of Geography Education Students from Universitas Samudra (UNSAM) to TDMRC USK

Banda Aceh, April 17, 2025 – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Syiah Kuala University (USK) welcomed an educational visit from 48 students of the Geography Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Samudra (UNSAM). This visit was part of the Field Practice (KPL) program, aimed at broadening students’ knowledge about disaster mitigation and management through direct experience at one of Indonesia’s leading disaster research centers.

During the visit, the students were greeted by the TDMRC staff and researchers, with Dr. Ahmad Nubli Gadeng acting as the moderator for the event. The students were accompanied by the Coordinator of the Geography Department of UNSAM, Faiz Urfan, S.Pd., M.Pd., along with five other accompanying lecturers.

The students were given in-depth explanations of the various research programs carried out by TDMRC, as well as the center’s role in disaster mitigation. They also had the opportunity to visit advanced facilities such as the Real-Time Earthquake Laboratory, Shaking Table, and Tsunami Wave Flume, which are used for disaster simulation and modeling.

Faiz Urfan, the Coordinator of the Geography Department at UNSAM, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity provided by TDMRC. “This visit has provided our students with a valuable experience, especially in understanding the disaster mitigation and management efforts carried out by TDMRC,” Faiz said.

This visit also marks part of TDMRC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening educational collaborations with various academic institutions and raising awareness among students about the importance of disaster preparedness.
