Banda Aceh – As part of the 20th-anniversary commemorations of the Aceh tsunami, Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), in collaboration with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) at Kyoto University and the Balai Arsip Statis dan Tsunami (BAST), is hosting a pivotal workshop on August 21-22, 2024. The workshop, titled “From Photo to Memory: Utilizing Memorygraph in Preserving Collective Memories” aims to train participants in using the innovative Memorygraph application to document historical and disaster sites. The workshop will combine theoretical instructions with practical field visits to tsunami-affected sites, enhancing participants’ skills in digital documentation. This initiative not only aims to preserve memories of past disasters but also to strengthen disaster preparedness for the future. This event is a key component of the broader “Sakura Science Exchange Program 2024” and aligns with the initiative to document historical sites and disaster impacts through innovative digital applications.

Event Highlights

The workshop, set for August 21-22, 2024, at the BAST-ANRI building in Bakoy, Aceh Besar, will feature Assoc Prof Dr. Yoshimi Nishi from CSEAS Kyoto University as the speaker, with Alfi Rahman MSi, PhD serving as the moderator. The event is designed to train participants in the use of the Memorygraph application, a tool developed for creating before-and-after photographic compositions which is crucial for documenting changes over time and disaster impacts.
