Banda Aceh, 03 September 2026 – Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) conducted a coordination visit to the BASARNAS Office in Aceh to discuss support for the implementation of Disaster Science Camp (DSC) 2026, part of the TDMRC In-Saintek 2026 program.

The meeting focused on developing practical disaster preparedness activities for students, including basic life support, survival skills, emergency response, evacuation procedures, and search and rescue operations. These activities are designed to give participants direct knowledge and practical skills they can apply during emergencies. BASARNAS Aceh expressed its support for implementing Disaster Science Camp 2026. The institution is expected to contribute expertise and guidance for the field-based sessions, particularly those related to search and rescue, personal safety, emergency response, and disaster preparedness.
The collaboration is considered important because disaster preparedness requires not only theoretical understanding but also practical skills. Through direct interaction with BASARNAS personnel, students will have the opportunity to learn about the roles, procedures, and challenges involved in disaster response and search-and-rescue operations. Disaster Science Camp 2026 will be held from 28 September to 2 October 2026 in TDMRC USK and Aceh Besar. The program will involve students from senior high schools and equivalent institutions representing districts and cities across Aceh. The program’s theme is “Strengthening Hydrometeorological Disaster Literacy and Preparedness.”
The initiative contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by strengthening students’ disaster literacy and practical preparedness. It also supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among universities, government agencies, disaster management institutions, and schools.
