Banda Aceh, 02 September 2026 – Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) held an audience with the Balai Wilayah Sungai Sumatera I (BWS Sumatera I) to discuss support for the implementation of Disaster Science Camp (DSC) 2026, part of the TDMRC In-Saintek 2026 program.

The meeting discussed the implementation of the field-based learning activities planned under DSC 2026, particularly the HydroTrack Initiative, which aims to introduce students to river systems, flood risks, and watershed management through direct observation and educational exploration. BWS Sumatera I expressed its support for the program. As a follow-up, TDMRC USK will submit an official request for the assignment of one BWS staff member to guide the participants during field activities at the rubber weir and the Bakoy Floodway intersection.
The meeting also explored the possibility of future collaboration between TDMRC USK and BWS Sumatera I in conducting studies related to watershed management and the condition of river systems in Aceh. Such collaboration is expected to strengthen the scientific basis of disaster education and promote greater public awareness of hydrometeorological disaster risks.
Disaster Science Camp 2026 will be held from 28 September to 2 October 2026 in TDMRC USK and Aceh Besar. The program will involve senior high school and equivalent students representing districts and cities across Aceh. With the theme “Strengthening Hydrometeorological Disaster Literacy and Preparedness,” the program will combine classroom learning, field exploration, soft skills training, and practical disaster preparedness activities.
The initiative contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by providing students with contextual and experiential learning. It also supports SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among educational institutions, government agencies, disaster management institutions, and research organizations.
