
Banda Aceh – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) of Universitas Syiah Kuala held a gathering event to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 1447 H, combined with a meet-and-greet session with volunteers and various parties who have contributed to USK’s disaster response efforts. The event took place at the TDMRC Building on Wednesday, February 12, 2026.
The event was attended by the Vice Rector IV for Partnership, Planning, and Business of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Prof. Dr. Ir. Taufiq Saidi, M.Eng., IPU. More than 120 volunteers and partners were present, along with the TDMRC leadership, cross-faculty volunteers, and staff who were directly involved in field response activities.

The event was opened by the Director of TDMRC and Head of the USK Disaster Response Task Force, Prof. Dr. Syamsidik, S.T., M.Sc. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation and gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and partners who demonstrated extraordinary cooperation throughout the emergency response process.

“The success of every step toward disaster locations would not have been possible without the collaboration of many parties. The entire team worked tirelessly in the field during the emergency response. TDMRC staff who normally focus on research also took part directly in humanitarian efforts during the response period, ranging from distributing logistics to assisting with the basic needs of survivors,” said Prof. Syamsidik.
During the occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Taufiq Saidi, M.Eng., IPU also delivered his remarks, conveying his sincere appreciation and gratitude to the volunteers for their dedication, solidarity, and invaluable contributions to USK’s disaster response efforts. He emphasized that the involvement of various faculties and units within USK reflects the university’s strong commitment to community service and humanitarian responsibility.
The gathering concluded with a joint prayer and shared meal as a symbol of togetherness and strengthened solidarity ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. (Dhian)
