Banda Aceh, 4 July 2024 – Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) is host a special visit from the German Ambassador, Ina Lepel, who emphasizes strengthening educational and research collaboration between Indonesia and Germany. This visit was carried out at the USK Academic Activity Center (AAC) which marked a significant step in fostering international relations and exploring joint opportunities for progress in education, research and investment.

The visit featured a series of events starting at 14.30 with the arrival of the German Ambassador. Followed by a tour of the USK Shop and a screening of a USK profile video to showcase the university’s achievements and goals for the future.

The highlight of the visit was the discussion “USK Towards a World Class University” led by Prof. Muksin Umar who explained USK’s vision of global education standards and the potential for international cooperation. Then proceed with transportation to the next location, Tsunami Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC), where further interactions will be held with German alumni in Aceh which will be held in the TDMRC Auditorium. This meeting underscored the strong relationship between USK and Germany and highlighted the university’s role as a center for international collaboration in the fields of education and research in Indonesia.

Prof. Syamsidik welcomed the German Ambassador as Director of TDMRC and staff gave a tour of TDMRC facilities, which displayed research on disasters and technological advances. She also visited TDMRC facilities, such as the Real-Time Earthquake Observatory, accompanied by Prof. Muksin Umar, visiting the Shaking Table, accompanied by Dr. Yunita Idris and Tsunami Wave Flume. Prof. Syamsidik explained that the Tsunami Wave Flume owned by TDMRC USK has the most complete facilities in Indonesia.
