Banda Aceh – University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) held a visiting meeting to TDMRC on December 27 2023. This visiting meeting aimed to prepare activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tsunami in Aceh. The visiting meeting, attended by UTM, Mercy, Human Initiative and other representatives, was welcomed by the Director of TDMRC along with staff and researchers. In this visiting meeting, representatives from UTM discussed the concept of disaster risk in Indonesia and how they could contribute to this in building cooperation to make the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Aceh tsunami a success.
Director of TDMRC, Prof. Syamsidik, also explained the invitation for cooperation for the 20th of the Aceh tsunami to related agencies, such as Central BMKG (regarding the Early Warning System), UNESCO Indonesia, BPBA (which will later host the activity), BNPB (regarding disaster management studies), and BPBD (regarding aspects of local community response). The hope is that this collaboration will be well developed and can make the 20th anniversary of the tsunami in Aceh a success in the future.
