BANDA ACEH – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center of Universitas Syiah Kuala (TDMRC USK) welcomed a visit from researchers from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and France on Monday, 13 July 2026, at the TDMRC USK building in Banda Aceh.
The visit was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ella Meilianda, S.T., M.T., together with the Director of TDMRC USK, Prof. Dr. Muksin, S.Si., M.Si., M.Phil. The meeting took place in a warm and engaging atmosphere and provided an opportunity to exchange information on research activities, academic experiences, and potential collaboration in the field of disaster studies.
During the meeting, the researchers discussed a range of disaster-related challenges that require multidisciplinary approaches and stronger cooperation across institutions. As a research center shaped by Aceh’s long experience in facing major disasters, TDMRC USK continues to open opportunities for collaboration with researchers and institutions from both Indonesia and abroad. 
The visit also provided an opportunity to introduce the various research areas developed at TDMRC USK. With expertise covering a wide range of disaster-related issues, TDMRC continues to encourage research that goes beyond academic knowledge and can be translated into practical solutions that respond to the needs of communities.
The meeting between researchers from ITB, France, and TDMRC USK is expected to serve as an initial step toward strengthening academic relations and creating broader opportunities for future cooperation. Such collaboration may be developed through joint research, knowledge and expertise exchange, scientific publications, and academic activities and capacity-building programmes in disaster mitigation and disaster risk reduction.
For TDMRC USK, national and international networks are important to advancing disaster research. The growing complexity of disaster risks requires cross-disciplinary collaboration, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experience between regions and countries.
Through this visit, TDMRC USK once again reaffirmed its commitment to serving as a collaborative platform for researchers to jointly advance disaster science and innovation that are not only academically strong, but also capable of delivering tangible benefits to society.
