TDMRC USK Held a Workshop on the Utilization of SupeRISKa and Building Database for Disaster Management in Banda Aceh as Part of the In-Saintek 2025 Program

Banda Aceh, October 30, 2025 – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) organized a “Workshop on the Utilization of SupeRISKa Tools and Building Database for Disaster Management in Aceh Province” at the Dr. Ir. M. Ridha, M.Eng Auditorium, TDMRC USK. This event marked a strategic step to strengthen the capacity of regional stakeholders in utilizing data and technology for informed decision-making in disaster mitigation and management in Aceh.

Vice Rector of USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti, IPU

SupeRISKa, or the Decision Support System for Disaster Financing and Insurance Based on Hazard Characteristics, is a technology-based innovation designed to assist governments in assessing risks, estimating potential losses, and formulating disaster mitigation financing strategies. The application provides a building asset dashboard, multi-hazard maps (including earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and landslides), as well as fiscal risk analyses to support risk-informed budgeting and planning at the regional level. Through this workshop, participants received hands-on training to understand and operate the main features of SupeRISKa, aiming for its effective implementation in local governance.

The event was officially opened by USK Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti, M.Si., IPU, preceded by an opening report from the Head of the Committee, Ir. Adrian Ulza, S.T., M.Sc. In his remarks, Prof. Agussabti emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to strengthen regional disaster preparedness. Aceh has a long history of facing major disasters such as the 2004 tsunami. Therefore, data-driven initiatives like SupeRISKa are vital to ensure that every development policy takes disaster risks into account,” he said.

Ir. Dina Feriana, ST., M.Eng.Sc (Secretary of the Aceh Housing and Settlement Agency), Prof. Dr. Syamsidik (Director of TDMRC USK), and Ir. Adrian Ulza, M.Sc. (Researcher at TDMRC/USK)

The workshop featured three keynote speakers: Ir. Dina Feriana, ST., M.Eng.Sc (Secretary of the Aceh Housing and Settlement Agency), Prof. Dr. Syamsidik (Director of TDMRC USK), who explained the benefits and mechanisms of SupeRISKa in supporting disaster risk financing; Ir. Adrian Ulza, M.Sc. (Researcher at TDMRC/USK), discussed building data, fragility, and vulnerability, and presented government policies on disaster-resilient building and housing management.

A total of 30 participants attended the event, consisting of 20 representatives from government agencies such as Bappeda Aceh, BPBA, BPBD Banda Aceh, BPKA, the Public Works and Housing Agency (PUPR), the Housing and Settlement Agency (Perkim), and BMKG, as well as 10 academic participants selected through an open call mechanism. Participants actively engaged in interactive discussions, where they would discuss topics such as the SupeRISKa DashboardDisaster AnalysisBuilding Vulnerability and Loss Estimation, and Fiscal Policy, led by a facilitator.

After the opening session, participants proceeded to the main workshop activities held in the second-floor classroom, where they received an in-depth introduction to SupeRISKa, a decision support system for disaster risk management. During this session, facilitators guided participants step-by-step in exploring the application’s various features, starting from how to access and navigate the dashboard, analyze building asset data, interpret multi-hazard maps, and understand probabilistic loss estimations. The participants learned how SupeRISKa integrates spatial and financial data to produce risk assessments that can directly inform government planning and budgeting processes.

Facilitators also demonstrated how the software can simulate different disaster scenarios and estimate potential fiscal impacts, enabling policymakers to anticipate financial exposure and strengthen disaster preparedness strategies. Throughout the session, participants actively discussed real-world challenges related to data collection and integration. They shared ideas on how digital tools like SupeRISKa could be adapted and scaled up for local and provincial disaster management systems. The interactive learning environment fostered collaboration between participants from government agencies, academia, and technical institutions, creating a space for mutual learning and innovation.

To assess learning outcomes, participants completed pre-tests and post-tests, designed to measure their improvement in understanding data-driven disaster risk management concepts. At the conclusion of the workshop, the TDMRC media team conducted short interviews with several participants to capture their impressions, feedback, and testimonials about the event, highlighting how the hands-on experience deepened their practical knowledge of SupeRISKa.

As a closing highlight, a post-test competition was conducted using the interactive platform Mentimeter. This engaging activity not only tested participants’ comprehension of the workshop material but also added a fun, competitive element to the learning experience. Participants who achieved the top three scores, along with one “favorite participant” selected for their enthusiasm and active participation, were awarded special souvenirs from TDMRC. The winners were determined based on the accuracy and number of correct answers they provided, reflecting their strong grasp of the topics discussed during the workshop.
