The inaugural meeting for the 16th Aceh International Workshop and Expo on Sustainable Tsunami Disaster Recovery (AIWEST-DR) conference has successfully taken place. This meeting is a crucial initial step in the preparations for AIWEST-DR, an international conference aimed at promoting disaster recovery and resilience. The conference is hosted by the Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) and Syiah Kuala University (USK), and co-hosted by the University of Sydney, Irides Tohoku University, UPNM, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Institut Teknologi Bandung, the Indonesian Association of Disaster Experts (IABI), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), and the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB). During the meeting, various important aspects of the preparations were discussed, including progress made, future work plans, and strategies for inter-agency collaboration.

The committee chair, Dr. Haekal Haridhi, stated, “This meeting is a moment for all of us to unite our vision and efforts in presenting an informative and constructive event.”

The 16th AIWEST-DR is scheduled to feature various sessions including panel discussions, workshops, and exhibitions with participation from international experts, practitioners, and disaster agencies. The event is expected to serve as an effective platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices in building community resilience against disasters.
