TDMRC team at ANRI/BAST
Banda Aceh – The Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) team of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) visited the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia—Static and Tsunami Archives Center (ANRI BAST) on Monday, May 6, 2024, to collaborate on the preparation of an infographic book on the 20th anniversary of the Aceh tsunami.
The TDMRC team, led by the Director of TDMRC, Prof. Syamsidik S.T., M.Sc., and the Chief Executive of the 20th Anniversary of the Aceh Tsunami by TDMRC, Dr. Alvisyahrin, together with the Coordinator of the Compilation of the 20-Year Aceh Tsunami Infographic Book, Ismiatul Ramadhian Nur, S.T., M.Si., met with ANRI BAST and was welcomed directly by the Head of ANRI BAST, MUHAMAD IHWAN, SOS, M.SI.
In his remarks, the Director of TDMRC emphasized the crucial role of ANRI BAST in the preparation of the Infographic Book, stating, “Your contribution, especially in providing book content, is invaluable. The Infographic Book that we are compiling will contain graphic visual content, such as images and graphs that describe the journey and history of Aceh in facing the 2004 Tsunami disaster and its recovery journey. We are here to request your data support, especially photos or maps that are in the BAST collection to be included in this book later.” added Prof. Syamsidik.
Furthermore, the Coordinator of the preparation of the Infographic Book, Ismiatul Ramadhian Nur, presented the book’s timeline: “The book is targeted to be printed no later than September and is currently in the data collection process. This book contains 5 chapters, and the outline of this book was agreed upon through FGDs last March.”
Meeting at ANRI/BAST
Responding to this, the Head of BAST Muhammad Ihwan, S.Sos., M.Si welcomed and fully supported the preparation of the Infographic Book: “ANRI-BAST and TDMRC USK already have a Cooperation MOU, so of course we are very open to supporting TDMRC activities. We are very interested in the plan to compile this book and are ready to support the things needed related to Archives and other data that we have.”
The Chief Executive of the 20th Anniversary of the Tsunami TDMRC said that TDMRC had prepared a series of activities in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Aceh Tsunami; there were at least 10 types of activities that were being prepared, including AIWEST-DR, U-DARE AWARD 2.0, National Symposium on Tsunami Mitigation and many more. “All series and updates related to the 20th anniversary of the tsunami can be accessed through the website https://tdmrc.usk.ac.id/20th-years-aceh-tsunami“. Dr. Alvisyahrin concluded in his speech.
This collaboration is expected to produce an informative and educative infographic book about the Aceh tsunami, which will serve as a comprehensive resource for understanding the tragedy. It will also be a significant form of appreciation for the victims and families affected, as well as a testament to the resilience of the Aceh community.
