Banda Aceh – The kick-off meeting for the International Symposium on Tsunami Mitigation 2024 was successfully held on 02 July 2024. This event marks the beginning of a series of preparations for the symposium aimed at enhancing tsunami mitigation strategies in the Asia region.
This symposium is organized by TDMRC Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), with support from various governmental agencies and academic institutions, including the Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC), Tokyo University, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Tadulako University, and Patimura University, as well as governmental agencies like BAPPEDA of Aceh Province, BMKG, and BNPB.
Event Format: The symposium will consist of three main sessions:
- Focus Group Discussion (FGD): To discuss and formulate recommendations for tsunami disaster mitigation strategies.
- Technical Session (Oral Presentation): Presentations from experts in disaster mitigation.
- Poster Presentation: A poster exhibition showcasing the latest research in tsunami disaster mitigation.
Speakers and Drafting Team: The symposium will feature eight distinguished speakers from various institutions, including universities and government agencies. A drafting team, consisting of academics and government officials, will work to develop effective recommendations in disaster mitigation efforts.
Further Preparations: Preparations are currently underway including the setup of a website, e-flyer, and registration form which will soon be available to the public. The event is planned to be held at Auditorium TDMRC.
