The Earthquake Simulation of the Typical Confined Masonry Structures Represent the Post-Earthquake Houses Reconstruction using Shaking Table Test.
The 6.5 Mw of 2016 Pidie Jaya earthquake, Aceh, Indonesia, was reportedly caused more than 3000 building to collapse. Based on the previous post-earthquake damage assessment, the majority of damage is occurred in residential houses,
which some of them is adopting confined masonry as structural system. Despite the confined masonry system is popularly world-wide known, addressed to its decent performance in the past earthquake events, the damage intensities in
the 2016 Pidie Jaya earthquake has once again raised awareness of the vulnerability of Aceh’s residential house, particularly to the seismic hazard risk. This study attempts to observe the performance of typical confined masonry
structure in Aceh by simulating earthquake loading via shake-table test. In order to conduct shake-table test, a simple confined masonry specimen is constructed within the context of recommended construction practices of earthquake-resistant
structure of residential houses in Aceh, and not limited to Indonesia. The characteristic of typical material properties of Aceh’s residential houses is adopted to construct the specimen, where it will be subjected to a range of
incremental amplitude of earthquake sequences.
